Most of the actions we use the mouse for can be done using the right keyboard shortcuts. But it’s hard to identify and learn the right shortcuts that could speed up your work.
One nice plugin to overcome this is the Key Promoter. Once installed, it starts to collect statistics about your mouse usage. If a given mouse action is done too often, which defaults to 3 times, then it shows a small pop-up suggesting the shortcut you could remember. In case that there is no shortcut assigned yet, it asks you if you want to open the shortcut settings.
Installation instructions:
- Preferences (or Settings) > Plugins > Browse Repositories
- Search for Key Promoter and hit install.
- Restart IntelliJ IDEA
